Parent workshops are 2-hour presentations that help parents navigate the challenges of child-raising in the modern world. These programs emphasize how a Montessori education can ease many common problems. The format of the parent workshop includes initial consultation with the School Administration to review parent needs, followed by a workshop designed specifically to address these needs. All workshops include lectures, hands-on activities and discussions, and handouts. Parents will be introduced to material and relevant work both from within Montessori and from leading educational authorities. Strategies for effective parenting are presented in an interactive format and participants come away with a renewed sense of confidence in their decision to enroll their child in your Montessori school. All workshops are customized for your particular school. Past popular workshops include:
Why Montessori? – Parents will be coached on the benefits of a Montessori education and how the skills learned in a Montessori classroom are the same skills needed to succeed in the current society. Parents will not only learn why Montessori is a building block to their child’s future but also why your particular Montessori school is unique and will offer the best education for their child.
Why Montessori Elementary? – Many parents leave the Montessori classroom after Children’s House as they do not understand the benefits of a Montessori elementary education. Parents will be coached on the development of the elementary student and how the Montessori curriculum addresses these changes.
Montessori at Home – Many parents are looking to assist their children at home with the skills learned in the classroom but often times it becomes rote learning and opposes Montessori theory. This workshop will give strategies and concrete examples of how parents can best reinforce the classroom learning.
The Montessori Parent – Many parents are confused with how they can support their child’s growth and development at home. This workshop will give parents practical ideas on discipline, freedoms and responsibilities, choice, and age-appropriate behaviours.
Specific Curriculum Areas – Parents often misunderstand the curriculum areas of a Montessori classroom. Workshops in each curriculum area will give a brief overview of the materials and concepts covered, as well as, how these areas relate to the development of the child. A discussion on activities at home will be included.
Journey to Discovery -Parents often misunderstand Montessori at all levels and how the materials and curriculum change to meet the needs of the child. The consultant and the classroom teachers will take the parents on an educational journey through the classrooms. This journey often reinforces the importance of children completing the three year cycle, as well as, staying in the school through the elementary years.
